UK Album Sales, U.S. Holiday Music Sales Down
Album sales in the UK totaled 100.5 million units in 2012, down 11.2 percent compared to the same period in 2011, according to data from UK trade organization BPI. The decline was spurred by a 19.5 percent decrease in physical album sales to 69.4 million. Digital album sales increased 14.8 percent to 30.5 million. Singles sales reached 188.6 million in 2012, up 6 percent compared to the same period last year, with 99.6 percent of sales coming from the digital side. In related news, U.S. holiday-season music sales totaled 54.9 million units for the six-week period ending Dec. 23, a 10 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2011, according to Billboard.biz. Noel Gallagher: God Is An Oasis Fan
According to Noel Gallagher, his ticket through the pearly gates of heaven are secure, thanks to the music he created while a member of Oasis. In an interview with The Sun, Gallagher revealed he will convince St. Peter to let him in by simply asking the storied biblical leader if he's heard "Don't Look Back In Anger." "They'd say, 'Of course,' and I'd say, 'Look, it's me, let us in,'" said Gallagher. "'I can play you a tune. I robbed some stuff [and] I took a lot of drugs, but I'm alright." If "Don't Look Back In Anger" is Gallagher's ticket into heaven, just think where "Wonderwall" could get him since it was a GRAMMY-nominated hit.
Kardashian, West Expecting First Child
Despite the fact that Kanye West was missing from the Kardashian family's 2012 holiday card, the famed rapper and girlfriend Kim Kardashian have announced they're adding another name to their celebrity throne in the form of a child. West revealed at a concert in Atlantic City, N.J., on Dec. 30 that his other half is "having my baby" and asked the crowd to congratulate his "baby mom," calling the news the "most amazing thing." We're thinking this could be a whole new reality show in the making.
