Adele To Perform At Oscars
GRAMMY winner Adele will perform her Oscar-nominated theme from Skyfall at the 85th Annual Academy Awards on Feb. 24 in Los Angeles. Adele is nominated in the Music (Original Song) category for "Skyfall." Additional music category nominees include GRAMMY winners Alain Boublil, Alexandre Desplat, Paul Epworth, Herbert Kretzmer, Walter Murphy, Thomas Newman, Claude-Michel Schönberg, and John Williams.
Study: File Sharers Purchase More Music
A new survey by Columbia University research center the American Assembly has found that users of peer-to-peer file sharing networks purchase more than 30 percent more music than those who don't share files. Commissioned by Google, the survey also found the average P2P user in the United States has 2,000 songs in their music library, of which approximately 38 percent were legally purchased, and that digital music library owners who don't use file-sharing networks have an average of 1,300 songs, 45 percent of which were legally acquired. Additionally, approximately 15 percent of U.S. respondents were in favor of sharing copyrighted content online.
Can Justin Bieber And One Direction Save The Youth?
While Justin Bieber assures his fans that, as long as they love him, he'll be their platinum, their silver, and their gold, One Direction encourage their fans to feel beautiful. But according to a new Netherlands-based study, teenage pop stars are offering much more. The study found that kids who listen to "unconventional music," which is defined as hip-hop, punk and trance, are more likely to become "delinquents," while those who listen to the likes of Sex Pistols or Odd Future are more likely to commit crimes later in life. In contrast, fans of Bieber, or "high-brow" music such as classical and jazz, showed "fewer externalizing problems." The moral of this study: Never mind the Sex Pistols, here's … Justin Bieber?
