Exploring Las Vegas' Entertainment Wild Cards
(The following guide is featured in "The Vegas Issue" of GRAMMY magazine. Read the issue, in a new reader-friendly format, here.)
Alright, so you couldn't help yourself and took one last turn at the roulette table and lost everything but your last two lucky $100 chips, and your significant other is screaming at you for blowing that $5,000 jackpot. Fear not. There are plenty of affordable forms of Las Vegas entertainment, like rocking and rolling all night and mini golfing every day. Here's our unofficial guide to some of Vegas' more interesting music-related hot spots.
Cabo Wabo Cantina
In the mood to eat, drink and rock? Leave it to Sammy Hagar to bring the savory fun straight from Cabo San Lucas to Vegas. On the menu, you'll find the Waboburger, Cha Cha Chicken Wings and the 8-pound monster appetizer adventure, the I Can't Drive $55 Nacho. Try your voice at karaoke and you'll get rewarded with a free shot of Cabo Wabo Tequila. (Repeat at your own risk.)
Graceland Wedding Chapel
Those couples romantic (or distraught) enough to get hitched while in Vegas need look no further than the Graceland Wedding Chapel. A Las Vegas institution for more than 50 years, couples can choose a traditional ceremony or revel in King-themed marital bliss. This is the actual chapel where the legendary Jon Bon Jovi married his high school sweetheart. That's giving Vegas a good name.
Fountains Of Bellagio
Need a refreshing (and free) musical entertainment option? The Fountains of Bellagio offer a complimentary marriage of water, music and light set against the lush backdrop of the desert sky. The relaxing music ranges from a collection of opera, classical and Broadway tunes and each water performance is uniquely choreographed. Warning: This aquatic wonder is subject to cancellation during times of high winds.
Monster Mini Golf Presents Kiss
Forget windmills and castles, how about trying your luck at a hole in one through Gene Simmons' tongue. The décor glows in the dark and the rounds are reasonable at $11.95 each. If golfing isn't your thing, join Dr. Love for a wedding at the Hotter Than Hell Wedding Chapel (where the bride may don black leather).
Wayne Newton's Estate
Wayne Newton's lush Las Vegas estate is a sight to behold, replete with South African penguins, crystal staircases and a memorabilia collection to make any pop culture fan salivate. Why not drop by Mr. Las Vegas' pad on your way out of town, and as you leave remember to say "Danke Schoen."
