Though the 60th GRAMMY Awards is just six months away, The Recording Academy is excited for another awards show: the 69th Annual Emmy Awards.

The Academy received three Emmy nominations for 2017: two for the 59th GRAMMY Awards and one for the CBS special celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, "Stayin' Alive: A GRAMMY Salute To The Music Of The Bee Gees."

The 59th GRAMMYs earned nods for Outstanding Lighting Design Lighting Direction For A Variety Special and Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Variety Series Or Special.

The 56th GRAMMY Awards won the Emmy in the latter category in 2014. Previous GRAMMY telecasts have earned more than 20 Emmy wins since the 26th GRAMMY Awards in 1984.

"Stayin' Alive: A GRAMMY Salute To The Music Of The Bee Gees" earned a nomination for Outstanding Music Direction under the helm of musical director Rickey Minor of "American Idol" fame.

The prior GRAMMY specials "Stevie Wonder: Songs In The Key Of Life — An All-Star GRAMMY Salute," with musical direction from Greg Phillinganes, and "The Night That Changed America: A GRAMMY Salute To The Beatles," with musical direction by Don Was, each earned Emmys in the same category.

The 2017 winners will be revealed via the live Emmy Awards broadcast on Sept. 17 on CBS, the longtime home of Music's Biggest Night.

Singer/songwriter Andra Day will help kick off the nominations by revealing nominees in the four General Field categories (Best New Artist, Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Album Of The Year) live on "CBS This Morning" at 8:30 a.m. ET/5:30 a.m. PT.

Immediately following, at 8:40 a.m. ET/5:40 a.m. PT, the Recording Academy will announce nominations across all 84 categories via GRAMMY.com and social media platforms.

The milestone telecast will take place Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The eligibility window for the 60th GRAMMYs is Oct. 1, 2016, through Sept. 30, 2017. The first-round ballot period took place Oct. 16–29, 2017, with the final-round ballot period set for Dec. 7–21, 2017.

This past spring, The Academy has completed its annual review of awards rules and regulations, and established a series of new amendments to guide the GRAMMY Awards process moving forward.

These amendments, effective for the 60th GRAMMYs, include implementing online voting for the GRAMMY Awards, recognizing songwriters in the Album Of The Year category and establishing Nominations Review Committees for the Rap, Contemporary Instrumental, and New Age Fields.

For the first time, all voting members will cast their GRAMMY Awards votes online rather than by paper ballot. This transition will provide the Recording Academy's more than 13,000 voting members greater access and flexibility than ever before, eliminate the possibility of invalid ballots and protect further against fraudulent voting.

Moving forward, all music creators (songwriters, producers, engineers, mixers, mastering engineers, featured artists) credited with at least 33 percent or more playing time on the winning album will be eligible to receive a GRAMMY for Album Of The Year. Previously, songwriters were not recognized in this category.

Nominations Review Committees will be created and implemented for the Rap, Contemporary Instrumental, and New Age Fields. A Nominations Review process was established in 1989 as an additional round of checks and balances to eliminate the potential for a popularity bias that puts emerging artists, independent music, and late-year releases at a disadvantage. Since then, Nominations Review Committees have been established across 15 GRAMMY Awards Fields.

Hustle on over and relive the disco fever sparked by this classic GRAMMY-winning soundtrack

In 1977 Saturday Night Fever sparked an epidemic that spread like wildfire. Not only was the film, starring John Travolta, an instant cultural phenomenon, but the soundtrack dominated the top spot on the Billboard 200 for 24 weeks.

For The Record: Bee Gees' 'Saturday Night Fever'

For this unforgettable disco classic, we have primarily the Bee Gees (brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb) to thank. They performed six of the soundtrack's tracks and wrote seven, including "If I Can't Have You," which was covered by singer Yvonne Elliman.

Saturday Night Fever hit it big at the GRAMMY Awards. The indelible hit "How Deep Is Your Love" was released as a single in 1977 prior to finding its way onto the soundtrack, and it earned the trio of brothers Best Pop Vocal Performance By A Group at the 20th GRAMMY Awards.

The following year, at the 21st GRAMMY Awards, the soundtrack itself netted the Bee Gees an additional four GRAMMYs, including Album Of The Year, Producer Of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance By A Duo, Group Or Chorus for "Saturday Night Fever."

Saturday Night Fever remains the only disco album in GRAMMY history to take home the GRAMMY for Album Of The Year. It's also one of only three soundtracks to ever earn the same distinction alongside Whitney Houston's The Bodyguard — Original Soundtrack Album (1993) and O Brother, Where Art Thou? — Soundtrack (2001).

The Bee Gees were recognized in 2015 with the Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award. The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack was also inducted into the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame in 2004.

Additionally, to celebrate the impact of Saturday Night Fever and the Bee Gees' timeless catalog, the Recording Academy hosted the CBS TV special "Stayin' Alive: A GRAMMY Salute To The Music Of The Bee Gees" on April 16, 2017, with artists such as Demi Lovato, Celine Dion, Keith Urban, Stevie Wonder, and John Legend covering hits from the album.

Barry Gibb To Executive Produce Bee Gees Broadway Musical

Universal Theatrical Group production to feature music spanning the GRAMMY-winning trio's career

How deep is the Bee Gees' catalog? More than deep enough for a Broadway musical, for certain.

According to Playbill, Barry Gibb will executive produce a new biographical musical spanning the career and catalog of the legendary GRAMMY-winning brotherly trio. Universal Theatre Group, the live theater division for Universal Music Group, has acquired the rights to produce the as-yet-untitled project.

"I'm personally very excited to be a part of the creative process along with Yvonne [Gibb, widow of the late Maurice Gibb] and Dwina [who was married to the late Robin Gibb]," said Barry Gibb via statement. "It's another adventure for us and a chance to throw the spotlight on all my brothers and finally the real story of us will be told. It's an honor to be working alongside the people I most respect. I can't wait to get started!"

The musical's full creative team, production timeline and performance location have yet to be announced.

Formed in 1958, the Bee Gees recorded 30 Top 40 hits, including nine No. 1 hits from 1971's "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" to 1979's "Love You Inside Out." The only other groups in history to score more No. 1 hits than the Bee Gees are the Beatles (20) and the Supremes (12).

The iconic soundtrack to 1977's Saturday Night Fever (GRAMMY Hall Of Fame, 2004), which featured Bee Gees smashes such as "Night Fever," "Stayin' Alive" and "How Deep Is Your Love," hit No. 1.

The Bee Gees won five GRAMMY Awards during their career, in addition to being honored with the GRAMMY Legend Award in 2003 and Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.

Earlier this year, The Recording Academy paid tribute to the five-time GRAMMY-winning trio with the CBS TV special "Stayin' Alive: A GRAMMY Salute To The Music Of The Bee Gees," which featured performances by Keith Urban, Demi Lovato, DNCE, Ed Sheeran, and Tori Kelly, among others.

In case you missed it, the annual Emmy Awards were held Sept. 17. While the entire list of winners is impressive, GRAMMY nominee Donald Glover made history with his two Emmy wins.

Childish Gambino Performs "3005"

Glover took home the Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for "Atlanta," a comedy series on FX. He was also nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.

His win for directing marks the first time a black director has ever won the comedy category in the 69-year history of the show. Glover's win also marks the first time a director has won for a show he acted in since Alan Alda won for " M*A*S*H" in 1977.
