Duff McKagan Teases New Guns N' Roses Album: "Oh, It's Real"

Following the wildly successful reunion for the Not In This Lifetime... Tour, GN'R's bassist provides a promising update on new material

At this point, Guns N' Roses fans are used to two things: extended waits for new music and big surprises. The band's 2008 album, Chinese Democracy, came after a notorious 15-year hiatus, and their blockbuster 2016 reunion for the Not In This Lifetime... Tour shocked and delighted fans on its way to becoming the fourth-biggest tour ever. Questions about new music were bound to arise, and now GN'R bassist Duff McKagan is fanning the flames of anticipation for a new album.

"Oh, it’s real, but the fun part and the cool part about Guns N’ Roses is we don't really talk about it, and what happens next just happens,” McKagan said on the Trunk Nation radio show. "It’s never been that band that there’s a direct schedule of how we do things. I’ve heard some magnificent stuff that Axl [Rose] has, really cool stuff he’s been working on. So I’m excited about the possibilities with that, of course. I don’t mean to get anybody rabid. Our day will happen when it happens, that’s for sure.”

Earlier this month, the band's unmistakable guitarist Slash gave an equally hopeful yet murky glimpse into the new project. “Axl, Duff, myself and Richard [Fortus] have all talked about… there’s material and stuff going on already for a new record,” Slash said. “It’s just, with Guns N’ Roses, you don’t go, ‘Oh, there is a plan, and it’s gonna be like this,’ because that’s not how it works. So, basically, the only real answer to give is we’re hoping to put a new record out, and we’ll just see what happens when it happens.”

Guns N' Roses have been nominated for the Best Hard Rock Performance GRAMMY Award three times in their career. Last year the group released a sprawling 73-track box set to commemorate the anniversary of their 1987 debut, Appetite For Destruction. The collection, titled Locked N' Loaded, earned its art directors a GRAMMY nomination for Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package and gives fans plenty of music to enjoy from the GN'R archive while they eagerly await additional details on a new album.

The Ozzman cometh back with the first single off a new album he calls the "most important album I have done in a very long time"

Heavy metal forefather Ozzy Osbourne dropped a new single today, "Under the Graveyard," from his forthcoming 2020 ablum, Ordinary Man. Have a listen:

The song's acoustic guitars and eerie atmosphere underlie its tormented lyrics, exploding into a dark, pop hook before giving way to a Sabbath-esque shuffle breakdown, synth-guitar solo and epic final chorus round, where all the song's elements seem to close in on the listener ominously.

The album will be Ozzy's first solo effort in almost a decade and first return to recording Black Sabbath's 2013 Rick Rubin-produced album, 13.

This time around, Osbourne worked with producer Andrew Watt, who also played guitars on the album. Guns 'N Roses' Duff McKagen handles bass on the album and Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith plays drums.

Osborne met Watt while working on Post Malone's "Take What You Want" from Malone's 2019 album Hollywood's Bleeding. The song also features Travis Scott., and Watt has also worked with artists such as Justin Bieber and Cardi B. The unlikely collaboration came at the suggestion of Osborne's daughter, Kelly, and even though Ozzy had not heard of the rapper, the song was a success and led to Osbourne and Watt collaborating on the upcoming nine-song album.

“This is quite possibly the most important album I have done in a very long time, probably since [1991's] No More Tears,” Osbourne said in a statement. One of its singles, “I Don’t Want to Change the World,” won a GRAMMY for Best Metal Performance With Vocal over 25 years ago.

Ordinary Man is due out in early 2020. Ozzy will hit the road for his No More Tours 2 trek, which resumes in Europe in January before hitting the States May 27 in Atlanta with Judas Priest opening. For more info, visit Osbourne's website.

Few voices or sounds in rock and roll can transport you back in time as fast as Huey Lewis And The News. Now the GRAMMY-winning group have returned with a new single, "Her Love Is Killing Me," their first new song in 10 years.

The snappy song harkens back to the signature pop-rock sonics of the band's '80s megahits, adding a coat of soul to their catchy sound with touches of of their most recent recording effort, 2010's Stax Records tribute album Soulsville.

"Her Love Is Killing Me" is also the first song off Huey Lewis And The News' forthcoming album. The LP title has not been revealed, but its release is expected in 2020 and will mark the band's first album of original songs since 2001's Plan B.

“We were in no hurry with these songs,” Lewis said in a statement. “The more we road-tested them the tighter they got, and I think we ended up with some of our best work.”

Just last year, Lewis was forced to cancel the band's 40-date tour due to hearing loss and subsequent diagnosis of Meniere’s disease.

After five career GRAMMY nominations, Huey Lewis And The News won their first career GRAMMY in 1985 for Best Music Video, Long Form for "Heart Of Rock 'n' Roll at the 28th GRAMMY Awards.

Spoon always seem to have something up their sleeve. Today, Austin's reputable rock outfit droped a new single and lyric video, "No Bullets Spent," and announced a greatest hits album celebrating their remarkable 25+ years as a band, Everything Hits At Once, due out June 26.

"No Bullets Spent" explores a new sonic space for the band, placing their distinct punchy and melodic swagger in a smoke-filled back room of a noir film. The song will also be available as a limited edition 7”, with the A Series of Sneaks era track “Shake It Off” on the B-side. According to a statement, the song was recorded in Austin, Texas, during sessions that could point to a forthcoming new album.

Everything Hits At Once, the Greatest Hits of Spoon will feature 12 career-spanning tracks plus the new single, and the album artwork will be unique to digital and physical formats.

“There are only a handful of bands through the years whose music not only resonates with fans, but changes the entire face of rock ‘n’ roll. Guns N’ Roses is one of those true icons,” Louder Than Life producer Danny Wimmer said. “Every year we want to come back bigger and better, and we can’t wait to welcome Axl, Slash, Duff and the rest of GN’R to the Louder Than Life stage.”

With this new performance announcement, the GN'R reunion that began in 2016 continues with original singer Axl Rose, guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan along for the ride. The group's Not In This Lifetime... Tour became one of the highest grossing tours in history, with its impressive run between April 2016 and December 2018. Earlier this year, McKagan even teased that the band is working on a new album.

The full lineup for Louder Than Life will be announced Monday, Apr. 8, with tickets going on sale the same day at 9:00 a.m. ET.
