The Chainsmokers' New Video For "Side Effects" Is Looking To Connect
GRAMMY-winning EDM duo the Chainsmokers have released a new video for "Side Effects" featuring Emily Warren, portraying "Riverdale" actress Camila Mendes as a disgruntled hotel housekeeper who goes off on a dancing spree.
Miami's Shore Club South Beach hotel is the scene of the action in "Side Effects," showing the DJs hard at play in their rooms while Mendes' dancing evokes the lyric's longing — "the side effect to my loneliness is you." If the duo's desired side effect to this year's new material is us, it looks like they are on the right track.
The single was released on July 27 and has reached No. 87 on Billboard's Hot 100. Featured vocalist on "Side Effects," singer/songwriter Emily Warren is a long-time collaborator of the duo with co-writes and a featured spot on their first album.
In January and for three months thereafter, the Chainsmokers began releasing a new single per month. First was "Sick Boy," which also has its own EP of remixes now, and that went to No. 65 on the Hot 100. February saw the release "You Owe Me" followed by March's "Everybody Hates Me" which just edged into the Hot 100 at No. 100. In April "Somebody" was released, and then came the pause until "Side Effects" came out last month.
The Chainsmokers began charting long before the April 2017 release of their first full-length studio album Memories…Do Not Open. In addition to winning Best Dance recording at the 59th GRAMMY Awards for "Don't Let Me Down" featuring Daya, they were nominated for Best New Artist and for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Closer" featuring Halsey. We made an infographic to keep track of their success. At the 60th GRAMMY Awards, "Something Like This" was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Their second album is not only eagerly awaited; its singles are already charting.
