With the official 10-year anniversary of the release of Bon Iver's hugely acclaimed self-distributed debut album, For Emma, Forever Ago, still close in the rearview mirror, the group's frontman, songwriter and overall mastermind Justin Vernon has announced the album will receive a vinyl reissue treatment in conjunction with a special one-night-only anniversary performance set for February 2018.

Bon Iver wins GRAMMY for Best New Artist

Billed as "For Emma, Ten Year," with the subtly mysterious tagline "A One-Of-A-Kind Smoke-Free Show," the anniversary show is slated for Feb. 17, 2018, at Milwaukee's Bradley Center.

Six-time GRAMMY-winning classic-rock band the Eagles may have countless hits to their name, but they are arguably most universally known for the title track to their hugely successful 1976 album, Hotel California.

The album (GRAMMY Hall Of Fame, 2008) is set to receive a 40th-anniversary reissue next month, and will come packaged along with a suite of 10 additional tracks recorded live at a 1976 show at The Forum in Los Angeles. A deluxe edition package will also be available, containing additional high-resolution stereo and 5.1 remasters of the LP, along with a book of previously unpublished photos.

Hotel California (Live at The Los Angeles Forum, 10/20-22/76) by Rhino Records

The album's second track, "New Kid In Town," sung by the late Glenn Frey, earned Best Arrangement For Voices honors at the 20th GRAMMY Awards. The now-iconic title track (GRAMMY Hall Of Fame, 2003) won the band the GRAMMY for Record Of The Year and the album snagged nominations for Album Of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance. However, the band famously no-showed because they didn't think they had a chance of winning, as The Hollywood Reporter revealed in 2016.

Following a touching tribute to the late Frey at the 58th GRAMMY Awards, show producer Ken Ehrlich and Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow stopped the band from leaving the stage in order to present them their Record Of The Year GRAMMY statuettes, which had gone unclaimed since 1977.

The Hotel California 40th-anniversary package will be available on Nov. 24.

Bon Iver, The National Launch People Music Publishing Platform

GRAMMY winners launch a vault of ephemera, where otherwise unpublished works will be available

On June 6 the collective team of Aaron and Bryce Dessner of the National, Tom and Nadine Michelberger, and Justin Vernon of Bon Iver launched the beta version of their new music publishing platform, People. The full version is expected to be available in time for the People Festival at Funkhaus Berlin on Aug. 13–20 with festival performances scheduled semi-spontaneously on Aug. 18–19.

What is People? The Guardian described the platform, which streams music but aims to be the antithesis of premium services, as "a place for artists to do what they want, entirely free of commercial expectation."

"We are a steadily growing group of international artists who have come together to create and share our work freely, with each other and everyone," the team wrote in a joint statement. "It was born of a wish to establish an independent and nurturing space in which to make work (generally around music) that is collaborative, spontaneous and expressive in nature and where all unnecessary distractions or obstacles that get in the way are removed."

"It's not open to everyone, like Soundcloud, but it's also not fully curated," is the way Tom Michelberger explained why the platform is not open to everyone.

The first People Festival was held by the same collective in October 2016. Designed to feature spontaneous opportunities for musicians to team up and record or perform, the festival gave way to next-level discussions.

"The overall feeling we took away was: why can't music feel like this more often?" Bryce Dessner shared. "Those conversations fed into creating a structure where this music could develop."

"This is much more spontaneous and free, without promotional timelines and requirements and the label demands that come into play," explained Aaron Dessner. "We've been 20 years in the National and gone through every phase of doing that. We see this as something else entirely."

"For me, People is a necessity for publishing certain music without cause for PR alarm," is how Vernon described the service, "or any other reason than just to publish it."

In addition to rarities and collaborations by the GRAMMY-winning founders, artists featured on the People platform include David Chalmin, David Kitt, Marijuana Deathsquads, Nico Muhly, Velvet Negroni, Poliça, Songs Without Words, and Francis Starlite.

"If it's just National B-sides, it won't be a success," said Bryce Dessner, but there is no reason for worry. The spontaneous ability to record is why the People Festival is held at Funkhaus Berlin, formerly the leading recording institution in East Germany. In many ways, the People publishing platform online seems a fitting extension of the festival spirit and it is bound to be better populated by indie rarities as the summer progresses. There is certainly an audience salivating at the potential listening opportunities.

Female Artists Top The Lineup For Outside Lands 2018

The San Francisco music festival will feature two female headliners for the first time ever in 2018

Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival has officially announced its lineup of performers for 2018, and in a welcome departure from the traditionally male-heavy booking practices of most major festivals, the late-summer celebration of music and culture will play host to female headliners on its largest stage for two of its three nights – a first in the festival's eleven-year history.

Topping the lineup this year are GRAMMY-winning pop icon Janet Jackson and GRAMMY-nominated British indie rock band Florence + The Machine. GRAMMY-winning darkpop/alternative R&B superstar The Weeknd rounds out the lineup as the third headliner.

Both Jackson's and Florence + The Machine's music catalogues are clearly at top-of-mind for talent bookers this summer, as both were also announced as the forthcoming headliners for Los Angeles' annual two-day FYF Festival.

Along with the expected appearances from top-tier artists such as Future, Beck, Portugal. The Man, Bon Iver, DJ Snake, N.E.R.D., and many others who are generally must-have bookings for any contemporary music festival looking to compete on the U.S. summer circuit, the festival's middle and upper cards are also packed deep with rising and established female and female-fronted talent.

Acts like CHVRCHES, Carly Rae Jepsen and Jessie Ware are obvious and anticipated additions to the billing of early-evening sets, but it's equally exciting to see so many newer names like Tash Sultana, Sabrina Claudio, Jessie Reyez, Margo Price, Lizzo, and others featured so prominently, bringing a welcome diversity of genre, vibe, and national origin in rising female talent to the festival's slate of offerings.

"We wanted to create a lineup that is really well-rounded and speaks to what people are listening to now. We didn’t just want three big names on the top," said Allen Scott, VP of the festival's co-producer Another Planet Entertainment, to SF Gate. "We look at it from every level and always strive to build a unique festival."

Outside Lands 2018 will take place in San Francisco's famous Golden Gate Park on Aug. 10–12. Tickets will go on-sale at 10 a.m. PT on Thursday, April 5 via the festival's official website.
