Block Party Rocks
The Recording Academy Los Angeles Chapter hosted its first-ever GRAMMY Block Party for a crowd of more than 900 people on July 31 at The Academy's national headquarters in Santa Monica, Calif.
The GRAMMY Block Party featured performances by singer/songwriter akaCassidy, YouTube sensation Charice, Latin/folk group La Santa Cecilia, GRAMMY-winning artist Raphael Saadiq, and Nashville recording artist Chuck Wicks, with musical direction provided by Rickey Minor, who was recently named music director for "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno."
All proceeds from the event benefited the MusiCares Nashville Flood Relief Fund, which was established by The Academy and its affiliated MusiCares Foundation in response to the devastating and life-altering effects of the recent floods that unexpectedly hit Nashville and its surrounding areas this spring. The block party raised more than $30,000 to help those in the music community that are victims of the floods.
