Barbra Streisand Says No More Concerts After Netflix Special

The GRAMMY winner plans to continue to focus solely on studio recording and films

Part of the incredible draw of live music is the inherent dichotomy between the intensely vulnerable experience of a performer taking the stage to be watched, assessed and — now more often than ever — recorded by their audience. Barbra Streisand would no doubt agree.

The eight-time GRAMMY winner and 2011 MusiCares Person of the Year takes her art extremely seriously, but is open about what she calls the "exhausting" experience of planning and executing a large-scale show.

These days, she vastly prefers the experiences of studio recording and filming movies, pointing out the difference as being " a private thing. I don't care how I look … I'm not being judged at the moment," in a recent interview with The Associated Press.

The singer has a new concert special debuting on Netflix this week, titled Barbra: The Music ... The Mem’ries ... The Magic! The film chronicles the Miami tour stop from her most recent run of shows — a tour which she has made abundantly clear will mark her last live performances ever.

"No, I would never do another show. It's exhausting," she lamented. "It's just too vulnerable. It’s too hard for me. I wish I loved it. There are so many performers who perform practically the whole year, you know, 200 or 300 days a year. They love it. And I wish I felt that way."

Streisand's admission that performing live is such a profoundly nerve-wracking experience for her is far from a new revelation. The singer famously refrained from touring or performing for 27 years following a concert kerfuffle in New York's Central Park in 1967 during which she forgot the lyrics to a song.

So what brought her back for this most recent round of shows?

"I actually did this last tour for a painting," she reveals. "I'm a big fan of [Amedeo] Modigliani. There was a painting I wanted that I really had a save up for it. … I can't work for money. I have to work for an object that I love, something I want to live with."

As for her new special, which will premiere on Netflix on Nov. 22, Streisand wants fans to know they should expect honesty and authenticity.

"I try to inhabit each song, you know, as an actress," she said. "I try to think of the whole [special] as the producer-director."

If you missed legend Barbra Streisand's tour in 2016–2017, you're in luck because Netflix filmed the whole thing so you can binge-watch it over and over.

Titled Barbra: The Music … The Mem'ries … The Magic!, the film captures the Miami installment of the GRAMMY winner's most recent tour. She covers six decades worth of hits, including selections from her 2016 GRAMMY-nominated album, Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway, with collaborators such as Melissa McCarthy, Anne Hathaway and Jamie Foxx.

In a promotional clip released by the streaming service, GRAMMY winner Foxx joins Streisand onstage for a little levity before they launch into a rendition of "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" from The Sound Of Music. This includes Foxx leading the audience in a chant of "Barbra," plus a few dance moves.

The concert film is directed by Jim Gable and produced by Ann Kim and Ned Doyle, while Streisand and longtime manager Marty Erlichman serve as executive producers. The film is written by Streisand, Jay Landers and Richard Jay-Alexander.

Catch the full magic of Streisand in action starting Nov. 22 on Netflix.

Little monsters and entry-level Lady Gaga stans alike will soon be able to see an intimate portrait of the six-time GRAMMY winner in a brand new documentary biopic on the singer's life, daily activities, and hidden habits.

Lady Gaga: GRAMMY Backstage

Gaga: Five Foot Two was filmed behind the scenes during the recording and roll out for the singer's most recent album Joanne. The film comes from director Chris Moukarbel, known for his HBO documentaries Banksy Does New York and Me @ The Zoo, the latter of which charted the strange lifecycle of Internet fame.

The teaser for Gaga: Five Foot Two promises to show, "Lady Gaga as you've never seen her …at her most vulnerable moments as she pushes through chronic pain, heartbreak and produces a soul-blooming album."

The film premieres at Toronto International Film Festival, which kicks off today, and will be available on Netflix starting Sept. 22.

Five major television networks and some of today's biggest stars have banded together to broadcast a one-hour musical special and telethon as relief and rebuilding efforts begin to take place in earnest in Houston, Texas, in the wake of the disastrous storms and flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey.

"Hand In Hand: A Benefit For Hurricane Harvey Relief" will air on Sept. 12 and include performances broadcast from several stages around the country, namely in Los Angeles, New York, and Nashville. Already signed-on to appear on the program are Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, and Resse Witherspoon, as well as GRAMMY winners Beyoncé, Barbra Streisand and Jamie Foxx, with an additional taped performance by George Strait being presented from his Houston benefit concert in San Antonio.

The event was organized by Recording Academy Texas Chapter Board member and GRAMMY-nominated Houston-based rapper Bun B as well as GRAMMY nominee Scott "Scooter" Braun. ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, and CMT will collaborate to simulcast the event across the five broadcast networks live on the East Coast, with a taped broadcast showing a few hours later on the West Coast. The telethon will also be livestreamed to Twitter and Facebook during the East Coast presentation.

Other artists and television personalities expected to appear on the broadcast include Karlie Kloss, Matt Lauer, Rob Lowe, Matthew McConaughey, Norah O'Donnell, Dennis Quaid, Julia Roberts, Kelly Rowland, Adam Sandler, Ryan Seacrest, Michael Strahan and Blake Shelton, with more names still to be announced.

The live telethon program will broadcast at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
