The Recording Academy hit the road for the 2013 Essence Music Festival from July 4–7 in New Orleans. The Academy's coverage in the Big Easy included conducting on-camera interviews with artists performing at the festival, including Bridget Kelly, Mint Condition and PJ Morton; comprehensive recaps of the festival's performances via GRAMMY.com's concert blog program, The Set List; and capturing four new installments for GRAMMY.com's ReImagined series with R&B singers Mia Borders, Tamia and go-go funk band Brass-A-Holics. Linking GRAMMY history with current music makers, ReImagined is a performance-based series featuring artists interpreting an iconic GRAMMY-winning song.
Now in its 19th year, the Essence Music Festival featured performances from more than 30 artists, including GRAMMY winners Beyoncé, Brandy, Faith Evans, LL Cool J, Maxwell, and Jill Scott. The festival also included panels featuring personalities such as chef Roblé Ali, GRAMMY winners Yolanda Adams and Donnie McClurkin, TV/radio personality Steve Harvey, Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), the Rev. Al Sharpton, and Essence Editor-At-Large Mikki Taylor, among others.
