5 Questions With… Quddus
MTV VJ/television personality Quddus visited The Recording Academy's headquarters in Santa Monica, Calif., on Sept. 29 for an installment of 5 Questions With…, discussing topics such as social media, musical influences, music education, and his involvement with the GRAMMY Foundation through Cambio.com.
"The great thing about Cambio is that we're really trying to give young people an opportunity to get in the game and not just be on the sidelines," said Quddus. "We wanted to shine a light on GRAMMY Camp and the [GRAMMY] Jazz Ensembles, and make sure that our audience knows about the deadlines coming up and make sure they get their applications in."
Born in Toronto, Quddus joined MTV in 2001 and hosted the network's hit show "Total Request Live." His popularity with fans led The New York Times to describe him as "sort of the Ryan Seacrest of the hip-hop generation." Quddus has since expanded his work as a correspondent for "Access Hollywood," acting in TV shows such as "CSI: Miami" and "Girlfriends" and working as an A&R consultant for MySpace Records. Currently, Quddus hosts Cambio Connect, the daily flagship web series for Cambio, an entertainment site launched in July by AOL, Jonas Group and MGX Lab. An avid supporter of music education, Quddus participated on the Social Networking/New Media Activity panel at the 2010 GRAMMY Camp, the Foundation's 10-day, residential summer music experience focusing on all aspects of commercial music.
A segment featuring the GRAMMY Foundation's GRAMMY Jazz Ensembles and GRAMMY Camp programs is available at Cambio.
