"Hope For Haiti Now" Raises $57 Million
The "Hope For Haiti Now" telethon, held on Jan. 22, raised more than $57 million in relief funds, making this a record for public donations in a disaster relief telethon, according to organizers. Funds will benefit Oxfam America, Red Cross and UNICEF, among others, in support of the victims of the recent Haiti earthquake. The Hope For Haiti Now album was also the largest one-day album pre-order in iTunes history, and is currently No. 1 on the iTunes' album chart and features musical performances from GRAMMY-winning artists including Beyoncé, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, and Stevie Wonder, among others. Pianist Earl Wild Dies
Pianist Earl Wild, known as one of America's master keyboardists, died from congestive heart disease on Jan. 23 in Palm Springs, Calif. He was 94 years old. In February 2008 Wild was the recipient of The Recording Academy's President's Merit Award at the GRAMMY Salute To Classical Music, where he made his last public performance. During his lifetime, Wild recorded more than 35 piano concertos and 700 solo pieces, and was the first pianist to give a solo recital on American television in 1939. Jammie Thomas-Rasset's Fine Reduced
Fines for illegal file-sharing defendant Jammie Thomas-Rasset's have been reduced from $1.92 million to $54,000, according to information released Jan. 22 from attorney Ray Beckerman. Thomas was initially fined for charges related to copyright infringement in the first RIAA suit brought to trial in October 2007. (1/25)

Sound Editing Nods For Golden Reel Awards Announced
The Motion Picture Sound Editors announced nominees for the 57th annual Golden Reel Awards on Jan. 22. Nominees for best sound editing of music in a feature film include 2012, (500) Days Of Summer, An Education, Avatar, The Informant!, It's Complicated, Sherlock Holmes, and Star Trek. Nominated for sounding editing of music in a musical feature film were Crazy Heart, Every Little Step, Nine, and Michael Jackson's This Is It. Winners will be announced Feb. 20 at the Golden Reel Awards in Los Angeles. (1/25)
