- GRAMMY Live
Indie pop/rock trio Fun. were the recent guests for an installment of The Recording Academy's 5 Questions With … series. Held at The Academy's headquarters in Santa Monica, Calif., Fun. discussed the success of their hit single "We Are Young," their latest release, Some Nights, songwriting, and advice for aspiring artists, among other topics.
"The three of us, having been in bands and touring and doing this professionally for 12 years, thought that [recording a hit single] was not possible anymore," said guitarist Jack Antonoff. "We thought we were too old for it so it's like icing on the cake. It's completely wild."

Formed in New York in 2008, Fun. is comprised of members who were previously in other bands, including Antonoff (Steel Train), Andrew Dost (Anathallo) and frontman Nate Reuss (the Format). In 2009 the trio released their debut album, Aim And Ignite, peaking at No. 71 on the Billboard 200. Released in February, Fun.'s sophomore set, Some Nights, was produced by GRAMMY winner Jeff Bhasker (Jay-Z, Kanye West) and climbed to No. 3 on the Billboard 200 on the strength of "We Are Young," which features Janelle Monáe. The song peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at the end of April it earned its seventh consecutive week with more than 300,000 units sold, marking the first-ever song to log more than five weeks with digital sales of 300,000 or more. As of April, "We Are Young" had sold more than 3 million downloads, making it the biggest-selling song of 2012.
