Emerging pop singer/songwriter Cady Groves was the recent guest for an installment of The Recording Academy's 5 Questions With … series. Held at The Academy's headquarters in Santa Monica, Calif., Groves discussed social media, songwriting, advice for aspiring artists, and her forthcoming EP, This Little Girl.

"Growing up, my favorite album was Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill," said Groves. "It's crazy because that same thing that happened to [Morissette], the relationship she went through … happened to me while writing my album. … It documents such a huge [moment] in my life."

A native of Marlow, Okla., Groves was gifted her first set of drums at age 4 from her step-father, who was also a musician. Instilled with an early love of music, Groves grew up listening to artists ranging from Lynyrd Skynyrd and Styx to Phil Collins, Amy Grant and Morissette. After graduating from high school at age 16 Groves entered culinary school where she met her boyfriend, whom she would subsequently break up with and would be the inspiration for her raw, confessional songwriting style. Groves later moved to Los Angeles and self-released two EPs, A Month Of Sundays (2009) and The Life Of A Pirate (2010), which helped draw comparisons to artists such as Kelly Clarkson and Miranda Lambert. In 2010 Groves landed a record deal with RCA Records and toured as part of the Bamboozle Roadshow with artists including All Time Low and Good Charlotte. Groves is currently on tour throughout the United States, with select dates scheduled through March. Her latest EP, This Little Girl, will be released on Feb. 7.
