GRAMMY-nominated pop/rock trio Hanson recently conducted a brief tour of Australia, including two concerts at the Palace Theatre in Melbourne. During their stay, Hanson were interviewed by Noise11, an Australian music channel featuring breaking news, interviews, performances, and more. The trio discussed their breakthrough hit "Mmmbop," the recording process for their 2010 studio album Shout It Out, musical influences, overseeing their own record label, and interacting with fans via technology, among other topics.
"Shout It Out, of all the records we've made, [is] the most cohesive record, from the beginning to end," said Taylor Hanson. "Most of it was recorded live off the floor because the way we record a lot of records these days is the way 1960s and '50s records were made, where you begin with this kind of basic core track — you've got the bass, the drums, the guitar. In fact, a couple of the lead vocals were done on the floor."
Comprising brothers Isaac (vocals/guitar), Taylor (vocals/keyboards) and Zac (drums), Hanson emerged from Tulsa, Okla., in 1997 with their debut album, Middle Of Nowhere. At the time of the album's release, each brother was under the age of 18. Middle Of Nowhere reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200, featuring the hits "Mmmbop," "Where's The Love" and "I Will Come To You." The former song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned two GRAMMY nominations, including Record Of The Year. The trio also earned a nomination for Best New Artist.
This Time Around, the group's sophomore album was released in 2000, reaching No. 19 on the Billboard 200 and spawning a Top 20 hit with the album's title track. Hanson followed with Underneath (2004) and The Walk (2007), with the latter reaching No. 4 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart. The trio's most recent album, 2010's Shout It Out, reached No. 30 on the Billboard 200. Released via their label imprint, 3CG Records, the album was produced by Hanson and features 12 songs co-written by the trio, including the single "Thinkin' 'Bout Somethin'."
Hanson are scheduled to perform select dates in Jamaica in January 2013.
