54th GRAMMY Telecast Garners TEC Award
The 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards telecast received an award for Outstanding Creative Achievement in the Remote Production/Recording or Broadcast category for the 28th Annual Technical Excellence & Creativity Awards during the 2013 NAMM show on Jan. 25 in Anaheim, Calif. Additional winners for Outstanding Creative Achievement included Foo Fighters' GRAMMY-winning Wasting Light and Gotye's GRAMMY-nominated "Somebody That I Used To Know." Additionally, GRAMMY winner Pete Townshend of the Who was honored with the TEC Foundation's Les Paul Award, which honors individuals or institutions that have "set the highest standards of excellence in the creative applications of recording technology."

LeRoy "Sugarfoot" Bonner Dies
LeRoy "Sugarfoot" Bonner, frontman for GRAMMY-nominated funk band the Ohio Players, died Jan. 26 in his hometown of Trotwood-Dayton, Ohio. Details on a cause of death were not revealed. He was 69. Considered one of the top funk bands to emerge in the mid-'70s, the Ohio Players released four studio albums that charted in the Top 40 on the Billboard 200, including 1974's No. 1 hit Fire, and landed eight Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including the title track to Fire and the No. 1 1975 hit "Love Rollercoaster." The group garnered the lone GRAMMY nomination of their career in 1975 for Best R&B Vocal Performance By A Duo, Group Or Chorus for Fire.

Turner No Longer A Proud U.S. Citizen?
Big wheels keep on turning for GRAMMY winner Tina Turner, who is reportedly en route to become an official Swiss citizen, pending formal approval from state and federal authorities. The wild-haired singer has been living in the Kuesnacht suburb of Zurich since the mid-‘90s. Deutsch marks or dollars, Turner will always be our favorite private dancer.
