Music Rising Benefits Superstorm Sandy
Music Rising has announced a $250,000 donation to aid musicians affected by Hurricane Sandy, and help rebuild music programs in schools in the Tri-State area, according to a Los Angeles Times report. Music Rising was co-founded in 2005 by U2's the Edge, GRAMMY-nominated producer Bob Ezrin and Gibson Guitar CEO Heny Juszkiewicz in an effort to replace musical instruments lost or destroyed in the Gulf region by Hurricane Katrina.
Beyoncé, Clarkson Set For Obama Inauguration
Current 55th GRAMMY nominees Beyoncé and Kelly Clarkson and GRAMMY winner James Taylor will perform at the inauguration ceremony for President Barack Obama on Jan. 21 in Washington, D.C. Beyoncé will sing "The Star-Spangled Banner," Clarkson will perform "My Country, 'Tis Of Thee" and Taylor will sing "America The Beautiful."
Music Leads Kickstarter Pledges In 2012
Music projects were the most successfully funded campaigns on Kickstarter in 2012, accounting for more than 5,000 campaigns and receiving nearly $35 million in pledges, up 84 percent compared to 2011, according to Billboard.biz. The average funded music campaign raised $6,900. In total, Kickstarter received $319.8 million in pledges, up 221 percent compared to the previous year, and collected $274 million from successful projects, up 238 percent.
Betty White Goes "Gangnam Style"
Think you've had enough Psy to last you through 2013? Well, GRAMMY winner Betty White hasn't. The Korean pop star and his "Gangnam Style" jig were invited to guest star on the premiere of White's "Betty White's Off Their Rockers" prank show. In the episode, the cast attempts to mimic the moves displayed in Psy's viral video. Rumor has it the trade-off was complimentary "Golden Girls" membership for Psy, and White will forever be summoned with "Hey, sexy lady."
