Don Omar, Romeo Santos Among Billboard Latin Music Nominees
Finalists for the 2013 Billboard Latin Music Awards were announced with Latin GRAMMY-winning reggaetón artist Don Omar enjoying a field-leading 18 nominations, including Artist of the Year, Social Artist of the Year and Streaming Artist of the Year. Romeo Santos followed with 12 nominations and Latin GRAMMY winners Wisin Y Yandel and the late Jenni Rivera followed with 11 nominations each. Additional artists garnering multiple nominations include 3BallMTY, Ricardo Arjona, Maná, Pitbull, Gerardo Ortiz, and Prince Royce, among others.
Spotify Set To Pay Rights Holders $500 Million
Spotify chief executive Daniel Ek expects the company to pay artists, labels, publishers and other rights holders $500 million dollars this year. The estimated half-billion dollar payout would be equivalent to the total amount paid by the music streaming service since it launched in 2008.
Liam Gallagher Loves "Gangnam Style"
Beady Eye frontman Lian Gallagher is apparently one of the billion-plus YouTube viewers to stream Korean pop star Psy's "Gangnam Style" and fall in love with it. The English rocker recently told fans in a Japanese web chat how much he adored the viral sensation. "I think it's an absolute classic ... I love it. My kid dances to it every morning and it makes me chuckle and spit out my Corn Flakes," Gallagher said.
