Track: "As She's Walking Away" (iTunes>)
Artist: Zac Brown Band & Alan Jackson
Won for: Best Country Collaboration With Vocals
Previous wins: Zac Brown Band was named Best New Artist in 2009; Alan Jackson won Best Country Song for "Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)" in 2001.
Did you know?: This year's win for Best Country Collaboration With Vocals marked the second GRAMMY Award each for the Zac Brown Band and Alan Jackson. "As She's Walking Away" appears on Zac Brown Band's You Get What You Give, the follow-up to their 2008 major label debut, The Foundation. The album topped the Billboard 200 and Billboard's Country Albums chart, and the song reached No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart in 2010.
Detailing a man's hesitation to reveal his true feelings for a woman, the song was co-written by Brown and songwriter Wyatt Durrette, who was inspired to write the lyrics after seeing a girl at a bar. "It was just one of those circumstances where you see a pretty girl in a bar and you don't have the guts to walk over to say hello to her," Durrette told TheBoot.com in 2010. "You find yourself missing that chance and…kicking yourself when you leave. That's what sparked the song…'I'm falling in love as she's walking away.'" Aside from the harmonious vocals of Brown and Jackson, the track features pedal/steel guitar by Clay Clook and fiddle courtesy of Jimmy De Martini.
Both Jackson and frontman Brown were born in Georgia. Jackson received GRAMMY nominations for Best Country Collaboration With Vocals GRAMMY in 2003 for "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" and 2004 for "Hey Good Lookin,'" both featuring Jimmy Buffett. Buffett also appears on You Get What You Give, lending vocals on "Knee Deep."
