Six-time GRAMMY-winning artist Big Boi recently visited The Recording Academy's headquarters in Santa Monica, Calif., for an installment of 5 Questions With ... . Topics of discussion included his songwriting and creative processes, music mentoring, the benefits of Academy membership, current projects, and more.
"The songwriting process I've used for the past couple of records, I like to call it lyrical surgery," said Big Boi. "I sit in a room with a beat for days at a time, and as the lines come to me I write them and go and [record] them a line at a time. Sometimes it takes a day, sometimes it takes a couple hours, sometimes it might take a couple of weeks. I've found [I'm] very prolific doing it that way because [I'm] paying attention to every little detail."
