- GRAMMY Live
The final votes have been tallied for the 56th Annual GRAMMY Awards (but still remain a mystery to us) and The Recording Academy is preparing to present trophies in 82 categories (yes, 82) on Jan. 26. In our latest installment of Ask The GRAMMYs we address when and where all 82 GRAMMY categories are handed out:
Hi, Kelly. As you might realize, 82 categories equals a lot of GRAMMY Awards. And with all of the awesome performances we have in store, it'd be nearly impossible to announce each and every category on the live three-and half-hour GRAMMY telecast. That's why, in addition to the select categories featured on the telecast, each year The Recording Academy hosts the Pre-Telecast Ceremony, which takes place prior to the live telecast and presents GRAMMY Awards in approximately 70 categories.
Best of all, you don't have to worry about missing announcements for any of your favorite categories because the Pre-Telecast Ceremony will be streamed live internationally from Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles on Sunday, Jan. 26, from 1–4 p.m. PT at GRAMMY.com/live. Hosted by GRAMMY winner and current nominee Cyndi Lauper, the ceremony will include performances by current nominees Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite, Hiatus Kaiyote, La Santa Cecilia, Roomful Of Teeth, and the Summer Horns featuring Mindi Abair, Gerald Albright, Richard Elliot, and Dave Koz, and special guests the Larry Batiste Orchestra and Verdine White.
You never know who you might see in the audience at the GRAMMY Pre-Telecast Ceremony. In previous years, artists such as Foo Fighters, Norah Jones, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, and Neil Young were on hand to accept their GRAMMYs. So, keep an eye out.
If you want more exclusive GRAMMY coverage, come to GRAMMY.com/live beginning at 9 a.m. PT for recaps of exclusive GRAMMY Week events and coverage of the red carpet, which kicks off at 12 p.m. PT. With so much to watch and hear, naturally you're going to want to talk about it. You can join the conversation at our exclusive live-blog (which opens with more red-carpet coverage at 4 p.m. PT), and on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
And Kelly, if somehow, heaven forbid, you miss all of this, the winners will be posted in real time at GRAMMY.com.
