Universal Music Group To Bid For EMI?
Following yesterday's report, Universal Music Group is among the companies expected to place a bid for EMI Music, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times. While UMG is reportedly interested in EMI's recorded music business, it could place a bid for the entire company, including its publishing division. Warner Music Group is also expected to place a bid once its recent acquisition by Access Industries is finalized this summer. (6/22)
Roberson Named Geffen Chairman
Gee Roberson, co-CEO of management firm Hip Hop Since 1978, has been named chairman of Geffen Records. Reporting directly to Interscope Geffen A&M Chairman Jimmy Iovine, Roberson will oversee the creative direction and operations of Geffen Records, focusing on discovering and nurturing new artists, and will be responsible for expanding the label's reach into areas including digital direct-to-consumer, merchandising, touring, and management. Details on whether Roberson will continue his role at Hip Hop Since 1978 were not disclosed. (6/22)
