U.S. specialty music and video retailer Trans World Entertainment reported fourth-quarter net income of $12.4 million, up from $11.4 million during the same period last year. Comparable store sales were down 6 percent with music sales down 5 percent. For the fiscal year ending Jan. 29, Trans World narrowed its loss by 27 percent to $31 million compared to $42.4 million in the prior fiscal year. The music category experienced a 4 percent comparable store decline on a dollar basis for the year, with music sales comprising 36 percent of the company's sales, up from 35 percent in the previous year.
