Billboard has released its Top Artists of 2011 chart with GRAMMY winner Adele ranking No. 1, followed by Rihanna, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Lil Wayne.
Global recorded music trade revenue totaled $15.9 billion in 2010, an 8.4 percent year-over-year decline, according to the IFPI's annual "Recording Industry In Numbers" report.
Album sales in the United States totaled 236.2 million units for the 52 weeks ending Jan. 2, a 12.8 percent decline compared to 2009, while sales of CDs decreased 20 percent for the fourth consecutive year, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
It has been a massively successful year in pop with an extensive group of artists, producers and songwriters creating sounds that had music fans singing, dancing and tapping along across the globe.
Ke$ha's "TiK ToK" topped Billboard's list of top songs in 2010, followed by B.o.B's "Airplanes" featuring Hayley Williams, Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance," Taio Cruz's "Dynamite," and Katy Perry's "California Gurls" featuring Snoop Dogg.
