Sales of smart phones rose 50 percent to 61.6 million units during the second quarter of 2010 and accounted for 19 percent of all mobile phone shipments, according to technology research firm Gartner.
Overall music sales — including albums, singles, music videos, and digital tracks — increased 2.1 percent to a record 1.5 billion units in 2009 in the United States, following 10.5 percent and 14 percent respective gains in 2008 and 2007, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
