Swift Sets Female Digital Record
GRAMMY-winning artist Taylor Swift has set the record for the biggest digital sales week for a song by a female artist with her new single "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," which debuted atop Billboard's Digital Songs chart with 623,000 units sold. Swift also notched the largest debut week among women, surpassing Lady Gaga's "Born This Way," which sold 448,000 units in its first week in 2011, and the second-biggest sales week ever for an artist, behind Flo Rida's "Right Round," which sold 636,000 units in 2009. Hastings Music Sales Down In 2Q
Entertainment retailer Hastings Entertainment reported an 11.6 percent decrease in music sales for the second quarter ending July 31, a larger loss compared to the year-ago quarter when music sales were down 5.7 percent. Total revenue reached $104.1 million and the company reported an overall net loss of $3.4 million, a slight improvement compared to $4.1 million loss reported in 2011. (8/22)
