Supreme Court Rejects Antitrust Appeal
The Supreme Court today declined to hear an appeal to a ruling that would reinstate an antitrust lawsuit alleging major record labels colluded to sell music over the Internet at a fixed price. Music companies including EMI Music, Sony Corporation, Vivendi, and Warner Music Group, among others, appealed a ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals in New York, which ruled that a federal judge had erred in dismissing a 2008 lawsuit on behalf of digital music consumers that sought to sue record labels that control more than 80 percent of U.S. digital music sales.
