Steve Vai To Receive Les Paul Award
GRAMMY-winning guitarist Steve Vai will be honored with TEC Foundation for Excellence in Audio's Les Paul Award at the 27th Annual TEC Awards, to be held at the 2012 NAMM show on Jan. 20 in Anaheim, Calif. Created in 1991, the Les Paul Award honors individuals or institutions that have "set the highest standards of excellence in the creative application of recording technology." Previous recipients include Lindsay Buckingham, Herbie Hancock, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, and Neil Young, among others. In related awards news, nominations for the Premio Lo Nuestro 2012 awards were announced with 2011 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year Shakira and Latin GRAMMY nominee Tito "El Bambino" in the lead with six nominations each, including Pop Female Artist of the Year and Tropical Male Artist of the Year, respectively. MTV, Vevo To Reach Licensing Agreement
MTV
and music video site Vevo are expected to reach a deal that would allow MTV to license videos from Vevo for use across its properties, according to a Billboard.biz report. Although details on the proposed agreement were not disclosed, the deal would be a step in the ongoing battle between MTV, Vevo and record labels to control and monetize shares of the online music video viewing audience.
