Sony's Purchase Of EMI Music Publishing Approved

Sony's Purchase Of EMI Music Publishing Approved
Following news in November 2011 that EMI Music Publishing was acquired by Sony-led consortium, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission has announced its approval of the $2.2 billion deal, according to Billboard.biz. Sony must now meet demands placed on the deal as part of European Union approval, including divesting additional catalogs, notably Virgin's UK, Europe and U.S. properties and Famous Music UK. That divestment must be completed within six months. (6/29)

ASCAP Honors Composers
GRAMMY-winning artist/composer Trevor Rabin was honored with the ASCAP Henry Mancini Award in recognition of his achievements and contributions to the world of film and television music at the performing rights organization's 27th Annual Film & Television Music Awards on June 28 in Los Angeles. Additional composers honored at the awards included GRAMMY winners Michael Giacchino, James Newton Howard, Mark Isham, Brent McKenzie, Trent Reznor, Howard Shore, and Hans Zimmer, among others.
