held a 29.35 percent share of the overall U.S. album market, including track equivalents, for the week ending April 24, marking the first time since 2005 that the label has passed Universal Music Group in year-to-date overall market share, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Sony also topped UMG in album market share alone, with a 30.5 percent share compared to UMG's 28 percent, but UMG edged Sony in digital downloads, with a 32.4 percent share compared to Sony's 26.7 percent. Iglesias, Shakira Win Big At Billboard Latin Music Awards
GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY winners Enrique Iglesias and Shakira were the top winners at the 2011 Billboard Latin Music Awards on April 28 in Miami. Iglesias garnered nine awards, including Latin Artist of the Year, and Shakira picked up six, including Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year, Female. Additional artists winning awards included Aventura, Camila, Juan Luis Guerra, and Prince Royce. In related news, GRAMMY winner Lady Gaga was named Innovative Artist and Must Follow Artist on Twitter at MTV's inaugural O Music Awards honoring online creativity on April 28 in Las Vegas.
