Songwriters Hall Inducts 2011 Class, Polaris Prize Nominees Announced
GRAMMY nominee John Bettis; GRAMMY winners Garth Brooks, Leon Russell and Billy Steinberg with Tom Kelly; and Recording Academy Trustees Award recipient Allen Toussaint were inducted into the 2011 Songwriters Hall of Fame at the 42nd Annual Induction and Awards Dinner on June 16 in New York. GRAMMY winners Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil were honored with the Johnny Mercer Award. In other industry news, nominees for the 2011 Polaris Music Prize were announced with GRAMMY winners Arcade Fire and Neil Young making the list for The Suburbs and Le Nosie, respectively, among others. The honor recognizes the best Canadian album of the past year across all genres and includes a cash award of more than $30,000. The winner will be revealed on Sept. 19 in Toronto. (6/17)
