This year, The Recording Academy experienced some Southern hospitality, staging "The GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live!! — Countdown To Music's Biggest Night" in Nashville. LL Cool J returned as host and was joined by country royalty and pop crossover sensation Taylor Swift. True to the GRAMMYs' patented genre-bending pairings, the show kicked off with Swift and LL Cool J reversing roles, with her beat boxing and his honkey-tonk lighting up the venue.
I doubt this year's Dance/Electronica Field nominees will find themselves in countrified getups anytime soon, but they should all have been proud to be a part of this night in a city that is now known as the center of all genres, and appropriately nicknamed "Music City."
Now on to the nominations. For those keeping score, three-time GRAMMY winner Skrillex led the pack with three nominations, including Best Dance Recording and Best Dance/Electronica Album. Swedish House Mafia's Axwell received two of his own, including Best Dance Recording for "Don't You Worry Child." Avicii, Deadmau5 and the Chemical Brothers are back in the race with nominations in the Best Dance/Electronica Album category. First-time EDM nominees vying to make a GRAMMY splash include Steve Aoki, Kaskade, Tommy Trash, and Al Walser. The latter two received nods for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical. Diplo received a Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical nomination.
We now look forward to the chering that will greet these nominees as they begin the road to Music's Biggest Night.
