- GRAMMY Live
(The following is featured in the List Issue of GRAMMY magazine. For more lists, read the full issue here.)
Whether as a diss or out of respect, artists name-checking other celebrities has become a time-honored musical tradition. Everyone from Bob Dylan and Tupac to Yoko Ono and President George W. Bush have been shown a little love (or even a little hate) from artists. But what about the GRAMMYs? What do artists have to say about us?
Shout-Out: "No matter how many records I sell/After the show or after the GRAMMYs/I like to go cool out with the family"
It's good to know the hustle and bustle of Music's Biggest Night doesn't keep the Dutchess from spending time with her family. We wouldn't want her son Axl Jack mad at us.
Nickel Creek, "Set Me Up With One Of Your Friends"
Shout-Out: "Who'm I gonna take to the GRAMMYs/Who'm I gonna make out with when I win/If you're gonna leave me, set me up with one of your friends"
Nickel Creek remind us that nobody wants to attend the GRAMMYs alone, and to date people with cute friends.
LL Cool J, "Big Mama"
Shout-Out: "When you told me, 'Knock 'em out'/I brought you home a GRAMMY"
Big Mama knows best. "Mama Said Knock You Out" earned LL Cool J his first GRAMMY for Best Rap Solo Performance in 1991.
Shaggy, "Think Ah So It Go"
Shout-Out: "My dream turn to reality when the GRAMMY touch me hand bim"
Mr. Lover Lover shows us some love in the most boombastic GRAMMY shout-out yet.
Jennifer Lopez Featuring Pitbull, "Live It Up"
Shout-Out: "From the streets of Miami, to presenting at the GRAMMYs/Con el muslito de Jennifer, maybe now you understand me"
Presenting onstage at the 55th GRAMMY Awards with Jennifer Lopez and, more importantly, J-Lo's muslito (thigh) inspired this shout-out.
Usher, "What Happened To U"
Shout-Out: "Seven GRAMMYs, sold-out concerts/Damn, I been working hard"
Usher's been working so damn hard, he picked up his eighth GRAMMY at the 55th GRAMMY Awards earlier this year.
Jay Z, "Dirt Off Your Shoulder"
Shout-Out: "From bricks to billboards/From grams to GRAMMYs … you gotta pardon Jay for selling out the Garden in a day"
He has 99 problems, but winning a GRAMMY ain't one.
