Rock, Pop Genres Top UK Album Sales In 2009
The pop genre held its biggest share of album sales in the UK since 2003 in accounting for 29 percent of sales in 2009, led by top-selling albums from Lily Allen, Lady Gaga, Paolo Nutini, and Robbie Williams, according to UK label trade body BPI. Rock accounted for 31 percent of sales, the genre's lowest percentage since 2004, and Kings Of Leon's Only By The Night was the only rock album to attain platinum certification. R&B represented 9.6 percent of sales, driven by big sellers by Beyoncé and JLS, and dance music accounted for 7.9 percent. (5/6)

Warner Music Group
recorded total revenue of $662 million for its second quarter, a 1.3 percent decline compared to the prior-year quarter. Digital revenue totaled $199 million, a 15 percent increase, while music publishing revenue declined 1.5 percent to $134 million.
