Napster Closes In Japan
Napster Japan has reported that it will end its service May 31, closing what was the country's first digital music subscription service. Launched in 2006, the joint venture between U.S.-based Napster and Tower Records Japan said it will no longer be able to operate due to high costs following the parent company's transition to a DRM-free model. Sources also say Napster Japan was never able to build its subscriber base to a profitable level. (3/5)
