Merlin, YouTube Reach Global Licensing Deal
Independent rights agency Merlin Network and YouTube have reached a global licensing deal in which Merlin's member labels will be compensated when their official videos or user-generated videos are played, according to a Billboard.biz report. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Merlin member labels include !K7, Beggars Group, Domino, Epitaph, Koch/E1, Kontor New Media GmbH, Merge, Naïve, One Little Indian, [PIAS], Sub Pop, Tommy Boy Entertainment, Warp, and Yep Roc/Red Eye. Mobile Social Networking On The Rise
In August more than 72.2 million U.S. residents accessed social networking sites or blogs from their mobile devices, up 37 percent compared to the same period last year, with approximately 40 million mobile users accessing social networking sites almost every day, according to a new comScore study. The number of individuals browsing social networking sites on their mobile phones increased 24 percent to 42.3 million, while users downloading social networking apps increased 126 percent to 38.5 million. Social networking services Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter increased their mobile audiences by at least 50 percent, with Facebook attracting the largest mobile audience with 57 million users in August, followed by Twitter (13.4 million) and LinkedIn (5.5 million).
