Manda Named Def Jam President
Joie Manda has been named president of Def Jam Recordings and becomes the first person appointed to this role since Jay-Z left the post in December 2007, according to Billboard.biz. In his role, Manda will report directly to Barry Weiss, chairman and CEO of Island Def Jam and Universal Motown Republic Group. Manda previously served as head of urban music for Warner Bros. Records where he was involved in signing artists including Common and Jill Scott, among others. (3/14)  

Billboard Launches Subscription Services Chart
Billboard, Nielsen and NARM's DigitalMusic.org have announced the launch of the first-ever subscription services On-Demand Songs chart, according to a Billboard.biz report. Data used to formulate the chart will include digital download track sales and physical singles sales, as well as radio airplay and play on streaming services, including MOG, Muve Music, Rdio, Rhapsody, Slacker, and Spotify. Data from the chart, which will be available beginning March 15, will also be included in the Billboard Hot 100 chart. (3/14)
