Jazz bassist Charles Flores Dies
GRAMMY-winning and Latin GRAMMY-nominated jazz bassist Charles Flores died Aug. 22 following a battle with throat cancer. He was 41. Born in Cuba, Flores started playing bass at age 10. After high school, he joined pianist Emiliano Salvador's Grupo Afrocuba and appeared on the band's 1993 album Acontecer. In 2002 he began performing with the Michel Camilo Trio and in 2003 earned a GRAMMY for Best Latin Jazz Album for Live At The Blue Note along with Michel Camilo, Robert J. Friedrich and Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez. (8/27)
