Indie Retailers Make Up 8 Percent Of Album Sales
Indie retailers were responsible for 8 percent of album sales in 2010, according to Nielsen SoundScan data, compared to big box retailers, including Best Buy, Target and Walmart, which accounted for 56 percent of sales, and online retailers such as Amazon and iTunes, which made up 26 percent of sales. Despite the relatively low album sales compared to big box and online retailers, indie outlets accounted for 71 percent of the niche vinyl market in 2010. (8/3)
