More than 500 people were injured and 19 people died on July 24 at Love Parade, a dance/techno festival in Duisburg, Germany, according to a report by the Associated Press. While exact causes of injury and death are unknown, eyewitness accounts indicate they occurred as a result of a bottleneck in a tunnel exit. Prosecutors are investigating whether negligent manslaughter was involved. Love Parade organizer Rainer Schaller has announced the event, which was launched in 1989, will be discontinued in the future. Attendance figures at this year's event have been reported to be between 350,000 and 500,000 people. (7/26)
