Many of us suffer from the winter skin blues no matter what coast we are on! Follow this advice and you are sure to have healthier, happier skin during the coming months.
The first tip I would suggest is getting some advice from a skincare specialist about your type of skin and how you can improve your current skincare regimen. A steadfast tip to remember is that you are going to need to moisturize more than you would in warmer months. To stay moisturized, integrate a slightly thicker day cream in the morning to get your skin ready for the chilly weather outside. Also, adding a thicker, richer night cream is a great way to give your skin the moisture and hydration it needs. Look for night creams that are botanical with concentrated vitamin C, which supports collagen and helps restore a youthful, hydrated appearance. Stay away from all products that contain mineral oil since it acts like plastic wrap on your skin, not letting it do the necessary functions like take in oxygen and release toxins.
Additionally, don't put away the sunscreen in the winter months. It is equally important to continue the use of sunscreen because with direct and indirect (i.e. reflected off snow) sunlight you can still be at risk of unhealthy sun exposure. One of my last tips is to integrate a hydrating mask into your regimen three to four times a week. Using this type of mask will restore and revitalize dehydrated skin. Look for a natural mask with sunflower seed oil, which makes the external layers of the skin softer and more pliable by increasing its hydration and reducing evaporation. The mask should also contain St. John's wort, which promotes skin health and reduces inflammation. Another great tip is to use a humidifier in different rooms in your home, which will increase moisture levels in the air and be a significant help to keeping your skin supple. Last but not least, make sure you are drinking more water during these months to keep the skin hydrated and looking more youthful.
