GRAMMY Executive Producer John Cossette Dies
Executive Producer of the GRAMMY Awards John Cossette died April 26. No cause of death was provided. He was 54. The son of longtime executive producer Pierre Cossette, John Cossette was involved with the annual GRAMMY Awards for more than 20 years, serving as executive producer since the 47th Annual GRAMMY Awards in 2005. "It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our dear friend and colleague, John Cossette," said Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow and Latin Recording Academy President/CEO Gabriel Abaroa. "John was a remarkable live television producer — and most recently Broadway musical producer — with many credits and accolades to his name. However, it was his warmth, easygoing nature, passion for music and the arts, and tireless dedication to the GRAMMY Awards and Latin GRAMMY Awards that was unmatched. We were incredibly lucky to have benefitted from John's creative guidance and leadership but, more importantly, to have called him our friend." (4/27)

Corporate Spending On Concerts To Top $1.1 Billion in 2011
Sponsorship spending on music tours, festivals and venues is expected to come in at $1.17 billion this year according to sponsorship consulting and research firm IEG, an increase of 7.3 percent from corporate America's $1.09 billion spend in 2010. The total reflects the largest expected increase in spending across all properties, including sports, causes and the arts. A large portion of the growth comes from spending on multiday festivals, including Lollapalooza, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Austin City Limits Music Festival. The total also factors in venue sponsorship, venue naming rights and artist-specific sponsorships. (4/27)

News Corp. Puts Myspace Up For Sale
News Corp.
is seeking potential buyers for social media property Myspace and expects initial offers to be placed by the end of the week, according to Billboard.biz. News Corp. is asking for minimum offers of $100 million, and current bidders include private equity firm Thomas H. Lee Partners and Criterion Capital Partners. A deal could be reached by June, according to the report. Myspace was acquired by News Corp. in 2005 for $580 million. (4/27)

David Renzer Exits UMPG
Universal Music Publishing Group
Chairman and CEO David Renzer will resign from his position after 15 years with the company. During his tenure, Renzer spearheaded the purchases of Polygram Music Publishing, Rondor Music and BMG Music Publishing. Universal Music Group President and COO Zach Horowitz will assume publishing responsibilities until a replacement is named. (4/27)
