French Music Market Up
The French recorded music wholesale market experienced an 8 percent year-on-year increase for first quarter, generating $165.8 million, according to SNEP. The physical market increased 4.3 percent to $136 million, while the digital market increased 28.7 percent to $29.8 million. Internet downloads were up 50 percent to $16.1 million, while the streaming market grew 100 percent to $3.4 million. The retail market dropped 7.1 percent, according to separate figures released by Observatoire de la Musique/Gfk. (5/5)

BandCentral.com Launches
The UK-based direct-to-fan Web site platform BandCentral.com officially launched today. The site will offer an ad-supported service at no cost, and a premium service for $9 per month. Created by founding CEO Wil Padley of the Domino State, the online platform will provide artists and labels with an Internet "BandHub" where they can organize and manage tours, fan lists, merchandise, finances, and more.
