surpassed Google for the first time as the most visited website in 2010, accounting for 8.93 percent of all U.S. visits from January – November 2010, according to marketing analyst Experian Hitwise. The social network was also the most-searched term for the year, accounting for 2.11 percent of all searches. Four out of 10 of the most searched terms in 2010 included the word Facebook. (1/3)

Concert Ticket Sales Down 12 Percent
Concert ticket sales for the top 50 worldwide tours totaled 38.3 million units in 2010, down 15 percent from the previous year, according to Pollstar. Overall gross revenue for the top touring acts was down 12 percent to $2.93 billion, while ticket prices were up 4 percent for the year. (1/3)

Online Holiday Spending Reaches Record Total
Online spending in the United States reached a record total of $30.8 billion for the first 56 days of the November – December 2010 holiday season, a 13 percent year-over-year increase, according to a comScore report. Computer hardware was the top category in terms of sales growth with a 23 percent increase, led by sales of handheld devices and laptop computers. Other categories experiencing sales increases were consumer electronics (21 percent), computer software (20 percent), video games (9 percent), and music, movies and videos (9 percent). (1/3)

Musicians Honored By Queen
GRAMMY winners Trevor Horn and Annie Lennox and folk musician Richard Thompson were among those named for awards by Queen Elizabeth II on Jan. 1. Lennox and Thompson were each named Officer of the Order of the British Empire, while Horn was designated Commander of the Order of the British Empire. The monarch bestows honors twice a year, at the beginning of the year and on her official birthday in June, in recognition of distinguished service to the arts and sciences and philanthropic work with charitable organizations.
