Essence To Honor Rhone, Rowland
Former Motown Records President Sylvia Rhone and 54th GRAMMY Awards nominee Kelly Rowland will be the honorees at Essence magazine's 2012 Black Women in Music event, set to take place Feb. 8 in Los Angeles. The invitation-only event will feature performances by Rowland and GRAMMY winner Eve, as well as a guest DJ performance by GRAMMY nominee and Recording Academy Los Angeles Chapter President MC Lyte. Previous Black Women in Music honorees have included Mary J. Blige and Janelle Monáe. (1/9)

HMV 2011 Holiday Sales Down
Following an earlier report of HMV Group's $77.8 million loss for the 26 weeks ending Oct. 29, the UK entertainment retailer has reported an 8.1 decrease in like-for-like sales and a 16.9 percent drop in total retail sales for the five-week holiday period ending Dec. 31, according to Billboard.biz. The company pointed to an overall decline in the games market over the holiday season. Despite the decrease in sales, like-for-like sales of technology products, including tablets and MP3 players, increased 51 percent. (1/9)
