EMI Sale Approved In Japan
Following last month's news regarding the New Zealand Commerce Commission's approval of Universal Music Group's proposed $1.9 billion acquisition of EMI Music's recorded music division, the Japanese Fair Trade Commission has become the second jurisdiction to approve the sale, according to a Billboard.biz report. The transaction is still under review by the European Commission and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. (7/11)

Pandora Listening Hours Down Slightly
Internet radio service Pandora streamed 1.08 billion listening hours during June, down slightly from the 1.1 billion listening hours streamed in the previous month, according to a Billboard.biz report. Pandora's average listener hours per day reached 36 million, up from 35.5 million in May, and the service's active listener total reached 54.5 million, up slightly from 53.3 million last month. Overall, listener hours are up 77 percent and active listeners are up 51 percent compared to the same period last year. (7/11)

ECHO Award Winners Announced
GRAMMY-nominated classical vocalist Renée Fleming and GRAMMY-nominated artist Tori Amos are among the winners of the 2012 German ECHO Classical Music Awards, to be held Oct. 14 in Berlin. Fleming will be honored with the Female Singer of the Year award for Poèmes: Ravel, Messiaen, Dutilleux, and Amos will receive the Classic Without Borders award for Night Of Hunters. Additional winners include GRAMMY winners Joshua Bell, John Eliot Gardiner and Anne-Sophie Mutter, among others. (7/11)
