EMI Bids Due This Weekend
Following a previous report on the potential sale of EMI Music, the deadline for first-round bids to purchase the company are due this weekend, according to Billboard.biz. Companies expected to place bids for the label include Access Industries, which earlier this month acquired the recorded music and publishing divisions of Warner Music Group and hopes to buy all of EMI and merge it with WMG; BMG, which is interested in EMI's publishing division EMI Music Publishing; Sony Corporation, which is also interested in purchasing EMI's publishing arm and merging it with Sony/ATV Music Publishing; and Universal Music Group, which has shown an interest in purchasing EMI's recorded music division and merging it with its own. Additional companies expected to place a bid for EMI's entire company are Oaktree Capital Management, Platinum Equity and the Gores Group and Ronald O. Perelman, chairman and CEO of MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings Inc. (7/29)

AOL
has shuttered the UK operation of AOL Music and several other of the Internet company's sites as part of an ongoing restructuring effort, according to paidContent.org. According to the report, AOL plans to focus more on its women's lifestyle websites, men's sites and its recent purchase of the Huffington Post UK. (7/29)
