BMI Honors Carey, Drake, Lil Wayne
GRAMMY-nominated artist Drake and GRAMMY winner Lil Wayne shared the Urban Songwriter of the Year award at the BMI Urban Awards on Sept. 7 in Beverly Hills, Calif. Also honored were Andrew "Pop" Wansel as Urban Producer of the Year, Nicki Minaj, Ester Dean and Daniel "Kane Beatz" Johnson for Urban Song of the Year for "Super Bass" and EMI Music Publishing for Urban Publisher of the Year. GRAMMY winner Mariah Carey was honored with the BMI Icon award in recognition of her influence on generations of music makers. In other awards news, GRAMMY winner Taylor Swift received the first-ever Generation Award at the 30th Annual Canadian Country Music Association Awards on Sept. 9 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The award honors an international "gross-generational superstar" who pushes "country music forward." (9/10)

France Honors Paul McCartney
On Sept. 8 in Paris, GRAMMY winner and Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Paul McCartney was named an officer of Légion d'honneur, France's highest public distinction, for his contribution to music. Previous Légion d'honneur recipients include actors Robert De Niro and Clint Eastwood, and Lenny Kravitz, Liza Minnelli and Barbra Streisand, among others. (9/10)
