Apple Reports Record Quarterly Profit
Apple reported record quarterly revenue of $46.33 billion and a record net profit of $13.06 billion for its fiscal first quarter ending Dec. 31, up from $26.74 billion in revenue and a $6 billion profit from the year-ago quarter. Sales of iPhones reached 37.04 million, 128 percent growth compared to the year-ago quarter, and iPad sales totaled 15.43 million, up 111 percent. The company also sold 15.4 million iPods, a 21 percent decline from the year-ago quarter. (1/25)

NARM To Honor Brett Gurewitz
Epitaph Records founder and Bad Religion songwriter/guitarist Brett Gurewitz will be honored with NARM's 2012 Independent Spirit Award at the Music Biz 2012 convention on May 9 in Los Angeles. Gurewitz is being honored for his "creative entrepreneurship and commitment to thinking outside the box." Past recipients of the Independent Spirit Award include Tom Silverman, founder/CEO of Tommy Boy Entertainment; and Don Van Cleave, former president of the Coalition of Independent Music Stores, among others.
