Album Sales Decline Slows, Digital Sales Up
U.S. album sales, including digital track equivalents, totaled 111.8 million units during the first quarter of 2011, a 1 percent decline compared to sales of 113.2 million units in the prior-year quarter, according to Neilsen SoundScan data. The drop is in contrast to a 6.1 percent decline between the 2009 and 2010 first quarters. Digital album sales increased 14.9 percent to 25.1 million units, and digital track sales were up 8.6 percent to 339.1 million units. The top-selling album of 2011 to date is Adele's 21, which has sold 942,000 units. (4/7)
